Innovative Community Action Network (I.C.A.N.) Mentoring Program is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit community based program founded 1995. We exist to meet the needs of at-risk and troubled youths within the community between the ages of 7-17 years of age. We are here to encourage, educate, inspire, and provide one on one mentoring to children and adolescents that will help to improve themselves and to make a positive impact in the communities around them. We also provide training to adults that they may in return become mentors also; this will enable them to use their talents and experiences to make a difference in our communities through mentoring.
The I.C.A.N. Mentoring Program was established to address problems and help meet the needs relating to the growing isolation of youths within our community. We have come to the realization that a different approach is needed to reach our youth. We also agree with the phrase “It takes a village to raise a child”.
Our goal is to incorporate the building process through mentoring that it helps to produce healthier and safer communities. Therefore, we at I.C.A.N. views mentoring as a positive means of transforming our youths into productive adults. Thereby, giving many citizens within the community an opportunity to contribute to the reclamation of our youths through realistic and flexible volunteerism efforts as mentors.
YES WE CAN Change The World As A Whole, One Child At A Time, YES WE CAN!!
“It’s time to shift our focus to Main-Street,
where the real work awaits us.
We cannot hope to achieve our goal of reaching
two million youngsters at a stroke.
It can only be achieved one community at a time,
one street at a time, and one child at a time.”
